What is OURDATE?

Overview

OURDATE is a start up dating app that focuses on matching you with like-minded people and assisting you in planning the perfect first date. Focus on developing intimacy with Ourdate by sharing meaningful moments that fit your busy schedule as a working professional. Quality time is essential for new couples as they lay the groundwork for their relationship, so why not make the most of it?

I began as a remote UX/UI design intern at Ourdate, where I collaborated with other interns and provided feedback to project managers and the company's founder. I quickly became one of the primary UI/UX designers in charge of many aspects of the application. The task was to improve every aspect of the app from 0 to 1 by designing with clear branding and visuals with a focus on our target audience of busy professionals.

The Process

We've changed our process of working a couple of times. But what remained consistent was that we would have daily meetings with all of the teams reporting the work that they accomplished. Every Monday morning we would decide on what we will accomplish for the week and the designers would have user testing either with people outside the organization or internal testing at the end of the week. Designers would also hold our own daily design meetings with the design lead and we would brainstorm ideas and give helpful feedback to each other.

Onboarding feature

I spent a significant amount of time improving the process, such as adding iconography to interest tags, removing unnecessary screens, and making the process more efficient. My most significant contribution was to transform the traditional onboarding process into a more conversational process, similar to having a conversation with Guru (the AI that helps users along their dating journey). This is a drastic change, and it is the result of extensive user testing.

Date Planning

Date planning is one of the app's main features, and it's one of the reasons the founder decided the market needed a new dating app. I went through many iterations and user testing for date planning, hoping to make the date planning flow more organic and less formal.

Profile Setting & Match Screen

Another important feature for date planning is the profile, which is how you present yourself to other users and potentially get a match from them. I helped design the majority of the profile settings screen, which allows users to edit their profile and other preferences. I also looked into ways to make the heart button more interactive and distinct from other dating apps.

Design Workshop

Contributed in design workshops by creating rapid wireframes, sharing usability testing insights among teams, and providing constructive feedback on other designers' work.

User Testing

After creating any potential prototype and flows. I've assisted in leading moderated user testing sessions that range between 30 minutes to an hour. I also contributed to the scripting and note-taking for testing. We have greatly benefited from testing in helping us make decisions and improve the product.

Experience gained

The experience significantly boosted my UX career by fostering collaboration with diverse teams such as my fellow designers, project managers, the engineering team and develop team. It refined both my soft and hard skills, enhancing my proficiency in presentation and bring concepts to life. I eagerly anticipate the app's success and look forward to seeing my designs applied in the real world and making an impact!
